Paris-alignment is an ambition that requires a long-term strategic vision, regular sense-checks, and a network of like-minded investors who can provide diverse insight, share opportunities and challenge the received wisdom. To mark the launch of www.netzeroinvestor.net we are inviting friends and colleagues, old and new, from the pension fund world, foundations and endowments, manager selection practitioners, and the funds who are bringing fresh ideas and investment products to market.

We begin the day with a series of investor roundtables and move into an international conference, including virtual participation from pension funds and investors from around the globe. Our launch conference will provide a space to contemplate some key questions: How do we get to net zero? Who is going to help us get there? What do our members and end investors want?

  • Asset allocation to Paris-aligned investments
  • Stewardship and engagement: what are the major engagements taking place today?
  • Climate risk: what have the last few years taught us about real asset risk, energy prices and stranded assets?
  • Financing net-zero technology and innovation
  • Advocacy: investors influencing policy
  • Climate litigation and class actions: understanding investment risk

Join us for a fascinating day of discussion and debate followed by our launch drinks party. We have reserved a number of free guest places for asset owners and for members of our advisory network. If you’re interested in finding out more, please contact jockum.nyberg@netzeroinvestor.net

Panel: Is ESG investing a dangerous placebo and an agent of political bias?

Tariq Fancy has generated consternation and debate with his withering attack on ESG. Criticism of a related, but different kind, has come from Republican state treasurers in the US who have divesting in droves from asset managers who they claim have ‘boycotted fossil fuel companies’. Where does this leave responsible investing and will ESG 2.0 come to the rescue?

PANEL: What was achieved at COP15 & COP27? How are net zero investor strategies evolving? Is there scope for greater asset owner coalition building?

Investors need regulation and political commitment to net zero if their own efforts are to bring about real change. Were the two big events of the year encouraging on that front, and how are investor net zero roadmaps evolving as a result of COP and spin-off initiatives such as GFANZ? Lastly, we explore how institutional investors are organising themselves to affect greater outcomes through engagement.

Engagement isn’t working: Discuss

Engagement has long been a favoured tool for investors moving towards net zero, but criticisms are mounting that institutional investors are shying away from firing board members and adopting a tougher stance.

When is endless engagment simply a smokescreen for greenwashing and what can be done to improve the efficacy of engagement?
