Alan has 40 years’ experience in international investment management, having led two investment businesses in the UK and US. His most recent full-time position was as a main board director and Chief Investment Officer of Schroders. Before that he was Group Chief Investment Officer and Vice-Chairman of State Street Global Advisors, and Executive Vice-President of State Street Corporation. He has been awarded ‘Chief Investment Officer of the Year’ on three occasions.

Alan is Chairman of Artemis and serves as a trustee or adviser to a number of charitable and commercial organisations. Until recently, Alan was a governor of the Wellcome Trust and Chair of its Investment Committee. He also served as Chairman of CDP, a climate change non-governmental organisation.

Alan has a BA and MA in natural science (physics) from Cambridge.

For over 20 years Guy has held senior roles as a charity investment manager working for Barclays, Lazard, Barings and Heartwood Investment Management.

In addition to the management of significant businesses, restructuring established investment teams and building a start-up company, Guy has considerable experience with a varied portfolio of voluntary roles. His core skills cover audit, governance, grant-making, fundraising, and financial advice for over £300m charitable assets.

Guy has a strong interest and deep experience and expertise in military charities and has been a trustee of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, is a trustee of the Army Central Fund and Blind Veterans UK, where he is chair of the investment, finances and resources committees.

He chairs the advisory committee of The Armed Forces Charity Growth and Income Fund CAIF, a pooled multi-asset fund. Guy is secretary of the Charity Investors Group, an independent group with a common interest in promoting a greater understanding of investment-related issues for charities.

Guy is a Chartered Fellow and Chartered Wealth Manager of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment; he is also Co-Founder and Director of Charity Intelligence with Lynn Pates, a digital database of charity investments and managers. This enables charities to review their investments in one place and on a consistent basis.

In 1994 Guy was commanding the Sovereign’s escort in London on a horse but now has come down to cutting around Cambridge and London on his Brompton bike.

Leonora has worked with endowment and foundation clients, at EdenTree Investment Management and Cambridge Associates, for over eight years. She is currently publishing a report on emerging trends in the sector. Leonora recently completed a Master’s in Nonprofit Management at Columbia University alongside working for global nonprofit Women’s World Banking. She has also served as a trustee for multiple charities.

Sanjay is the impact and local investing specialist at Hymans Robertson. Over recent years, he has been involved in several key areas of thought leadership, including thinking on impact investing and as an author of the paper “The Emperor’s new climate scenarios”. Prior to his time at Hymans, Sanjay worked a number of impact-focused initiatives, including SoGive, which supported major donors and foundations to improve the impact of their philanthropy. Sanjay started his career as an insurance actuary, and has also worked as a credit analyst at S&P and a strategy consultant.

JENNY SEGAL MA FIA C.Act ARSM is passionate about creating cultures people want to work in. Following a maths degree from Oxford University, qualifying as an actuary and 25 years leading global sales teams, a spat with cancer gave her a fresh perspective on purpose. She now enjoys a portfolio career: board roles, co-founder of The Culture Club Agitation Tank, ambassador for Inclusion in Finance, Chief Investment Officer for Nesta Trust and is a compelling author, trainer and public speaker on workplace culture and resilience, drawing on her leadership career and proprietary research from her five books

Gail Cunningham is an independent consultant, with a focus on charity investment governance and social impact investing. Gail led the work to develop the Charity Investment Governance Principles, has worked as an advisor to the Environmental Funders Network and Better Society Capital, and recently completed the ‘Driving Impact’ report commissioned by the Macquarie Group Foundation on unlocking corporate social Impact Investing.

Gail is a Trustee of the Essex Community Foundation.

As a proven communicator and business developer I have played an integral part in building and sustaining a £9bn institutional asset management business, while also managing portfolios and relationships for private clients.

Kate is Head of the Responsible Investment Centre of Excellence, where she leads a team operating across three core disciplines: sustainability research, ESG integration, and voting, stewardship and engagement.

She helps shape and oversee the firm’s responsible and sustainable investment approach, stewardship and engagement activities and systems for the measurement and reporting of portfolio sustainability and impact performance.

Kate is a member of Rathbones’ responsible investment committee and sponsors Rathbones Group’s social mobility inclusion network. She joined Rathbones in 2007.

Lisa Stonestreet is the Head of Communications and Charity Impact at the EIRIS Foundation, an independent, not-for-profit organisation with more than 40 years of experience working at the intersection of responsible investment, human rights, and public policy. Lisa was previously a Programme Director at the UK Sustainable Investment and Finance Association (UKSIF), supporting the growth of UK market demand for responsible investment and other financial services that advance sustainability through activities such as Good Money Week, the Ethical Investment Association and support for Pension Funds and Charity Investors. Lisa initially developed an interest in sustainable finance while studying Finance and Environmental Economics in South Africa. Lisa is the Chair of the Castlefield External Advisory Committee, a member of the UKSIF Industry Development Committee and a proud Trustee of The Orchard Project.

Kris operates at the junction of investment, governance and technology. In charity investment governance, he has responsibility for the investments of two endowed charities: the King Edward VI Foundation (KEVI), established in 1552, an educational charity in Birmingham, where he is a member of the Investment Committee; and the social housing and grant-giving charity Thrale Almshouse & Relief in Need, based in Streatham, South London, where he is the Trustee Treasurer.

Kris designs and implements a new class of operationalised, values-based frameworks, across responsible investment, impact and fiduciary duty, built with multiple aligned functions that structurally embed legal compliance.

The KEVI Foundation’s RI policy reorients around its six values and covers all actors, assets and governance across a portfolio of segregated mandates, pooled funds and direct property, whilst also functioning as a monitoring and stakeholder communication framework.

He is also UK lead at Global Fund Search (GFS), the whole-of-market manager (re)search and capital connection platform, working with endowments and other institutional investors across Europe. He has more than 25 years across asset management, institutional investment and technology, and delivers technology (with five patents pending) to both GFS and the charities he works with through his AI platform Liquid Möbius.

Paley joined Better Society Capital in April 2024 as Investment Network Manager, where she built and manages BSC’s investment networks and supported fund managers to accelerate their scaling journeys. She is now an Investment Partnerships and Advisory Manager, where she works with investors and strategic partners to provide insights, connections, and tools that help grow the social impact investment market. Prior to joining BSC, Paley worked as a consultant with a range of healthcare and social investment organisations in the U.K. and U.S., including the Elton John AIDS Foundation, NHS North West London’s Health Equity Team, and the Blended Finance Collective. As a consultant, she specialised in managing investor relationships, building communities of practice, and advising funders on investment strategies to drive meaningful social change. She has spent her career working to strengthen health system across a variety of roles in East Africa, the U.K., and U.S.
