Longview Network’s brand-new half-day conference will bring together institutional investors, leading asset managers, and housing investment experts to explore the role of housing as an asset class in supporting the UK government’s commitment to deliver 1.5 million new homes by 2029.

What are the partnerships needed between investors, local government and others to bridge viability gaps and make delivery happen? What are the risk and reward profiles of different housing classes including affordable housing, build-to-rent, temporary accommodation, specialist accommodation and private market rate homes? Will LGPS reforms encourage more investment in housing?

What are the policy, fiscal and governance factors needed to stimulate more investment in housing?

With the Government’s ambitious plans to build 1.5 million homes before 2028, and with institutional capital expected to play a key-role, what will really take to build-baby build? How are investors reconciling governance constraints and fiduciary duty with making investments in the housing sector? What fiscal, political and policy changes needed to access the “wall of capital” key to housing growth? How are investors evaluating opportunities and risks in their mix of housing assets in their portfolios? What collaborations and partnerships are needed to bridge viability gaps and enable building at scale?

Building affordable and social homes – the perfect place-based investment?

With the government’s Social and Affordable Homes Programme actively seeking investment to bridge considerable funding gaps we explore how realistic the 300,000 target is in the next 10 years. What do we mean by “affordable”? What are the reputational risks of investing in social homes and are they discouraging investment? Can affordable and social housing be positioned as compelling place-based investment opportunities that deliver both social impact and sustainable financial returns? How do we define “local investment”?

Build-to-rent – the obvious choice for long-term returns?

Build-to-rent has been considered an attractive and resilient choice for long-term returns for large-scale and institutional investors. Driven by strong, consistent demand for high-quality rental housing, and the potential for both stable rental income and capital appreciation over time. But with more regulation in the building and rental sector what are the longer-term considerations around fire-safely, maintenance, running costs and energy efficiency that need to be factored in? Will build-to-rent continue to be a cornerstone of investor portfolios?
