Join our second Defined Contribution Forum in London for a look at the specific challenges the DC community is facing as it ramps up its private markets commitments across private equity, infrastructure, venture and natural capital as well as private debt. How should allocations be thought about and what structural challenges are investors facing, will be among the questions we will be considering

Private markets investing for DC - where now and next?

Three years on from the launch of the LTAF regime, the Mansion House Compact and the coronation of King Charles III, this period may come to be seen as the point at which DC pensions began to move from an ‘Elizabethan’ to a new ‘Carolean’ age – one defined by greater scale, sophistication and ambition in investment strategy.

This session explores how the UK DC private markets landscape has evolved over that time, what the next phase of implementation may look like, and how success should be judged through the lens of improved member outcomes.

James Wall

head of UK DC business development.

DC scaling - what does the next phase of private markets look like?

We are now at a stage where he question is no longer whether to invest in private markets, but how the model evolves. How will core vs satellite allocations evolve? Are we heading towards commoditised private markets? How will liquidity be managed? What happens when VFM meets private markets ramp-up? Should evergreen funds be the way forward and ultimately which model will win out.

The productive finance agenda – supporting British businesses

The Mansion House Accord, Sterling 20 and more are now firmly cornerstones of the DC investment conversation, but how do you find the best investment models and strategies to take advantage of opportunities in UK growth private equity and venture capital? How do the opportunities stack up in a global context? Are schemes substituting foreign capital or generating new investment? What can we learn from other types of global DC investors?

Infrastructure all the way through?

Infrastructure is one of the most widely adopted private market assets in DC portfolios and is increasingly seen as a natural fit for both accumulation and decumulation stages, but how will DC investors approach this vast asset class? Should the bulk be in core, value-add or opportunistic infrastructure?
What role will energy transition assets play within this asset class? Are there good UK opportunities in infrastructure and how do you best access these assets?

A Fresh Perspective on Real Estate for DC Investors

Real estate has long been a cornerstone of portfolios, valued for its income-generating characteristics and diversification benefits. In the context of evolving DC portfolios, property can play a meaningful role in member glidepaths. As an established and well understood asset class, the flexibility to access a range of risk-return profiles makes it particularly well-suited to the next generation of DC solutions.

Private markets in retirement: the next frontier for DC portfolios

What happens to private markets allocations as members enter retirement? As default retirement solutions must be in place by 2027 the DC markets faces a lot of work in a short amount of time. Should asset allocation change dramatically at retirement? Can private assets deliver stable retirement income? Which asset classes look most suitable and will CDC and other innovations help determine the fate of private markets in the decumulation phase?
