Net Zero Investor’s Insurance Investment Summit

Net Zero Investor’s Insurance Investment Summit

Investing in net zero assets across public and private markets comes with its own special set of considerations for the insurance community. Join investment professionals from life, general and reinsurers to discuss the opportunities across sustainable bonds, equities as well as the private markets opportunities that exist in investing in everything from natural capital to renewable infrastructure.

Roundtable format

This summit style roundtable is an interactive meeting for a limited number of insurers from different backgrounds with experience of, or plans for, allocating assets in a net zero fashion across public and private markets.

A series of short presentations and asset owner testimony will kick-start a conversation between participants and market practitioners covering a range of asset classes and investment themes.

Registration is only open to qualifying insurers who will be invited to either deliver a short presentation or take part in the roundtable discussion.

The summit/roundtable lasts for two hours in total and is followed by networking drinks.

The net zero needs and wants of insurers as asset owners

With a net zero future in mind, insurers face a unique set of challenges and opportunities as asset owners. Key questions include: What are realistic portfolio decarbonisation pathways? How do you set sensible interim targets and actions? How do you integrate net zero into asset allocation strategies? How do you leverage the risk management capacities already embedded in insurance organisations? Is the net zero data strong enough across private and public markets to make informed decisions?

3:30

Which grass is greener? sustainable debt vs equity

Considering the specific constraints and liability, what asset classes are considered most desirable? Is sustainable equity or sustainable debt more attractive and where can you have the greatest impact? Are green tilts for equities the way forward? Are green bonds suitable for insurers? Can net zero be achieved in a passive way or is active management across bond and equity portfolios necessary?

4:00

The role of private market investments to insurers

Investment in private markets may hold the key to net zero portfolios for insurers as asset owners, but questions remain on how to utilise these often very long-term investments. Private infrastructure for instance seems to provide a great potential for long term returns. What role should renewable infrastructure play in an insurance portfolio? Can natural capital investments in forestry and nature-based credit solutions form a part of the investable universe and is backing climate tech companies a sensible component for the insurance investor?

4:30

Portfolio alignment and real economy decarbonisation

For all asset owners, transitioning to a net zero portfolio will undoubtedly be a challenge. However, for insurers, aligning investments with real economy decarbonisation presents unique challenges. How will investments be affected by both physical and transitional risk? How can insurers ensure their investments support real reductions in emissions across sectors? Which investments can encourage meaningful change in high-emission industries? And through what metrics or interactions can insurers effectively track progress?
